“It’s common to believe that life is a series of external experiences…
If we focus on what’s going on inside ourselves–sensations, emotions, the patterns of our thoughts–a wealth of material can be found. Our inner world is every bit as interesting, beautiful, and surprising as nature itself. It is, after all, born of nature.
When we go inside, we are processing what’s going on the outside. We’re no longer separate. We’re connected. We are one.
Ultimately, it doesn’t make a difference whether your content originates on the inside or the outside. If a beautiful thought or phrase comes to mind, or if you see a beautiful sunset, one’s not better than the other. Both are equally beautiful in different ways. It’s helpful to consider there are always more options available to us than we might realize.”
~ Rick Rubin, The Creative Act: A Way of Being
Our one beautiful thing has no rules of origin. No rules of engagement. No rules whatsoever.
To take beauty into ourselves–whether it be from without, or from a distant land within–is to top off the well so that we are always ready to dole beauty back out to the world.
“Breathing in, I know I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I smile.”
~ Thich Nhat Hanh, No Mud, No Lotus
Rest. Receive. Reconnect.
Time to love louder.

To me there is no ‘outside’ experience. Where do you experience the sunset of not within yourself? This is why no two people ever experience the same thing the same way. It’s all processed from within through our own unique filters.
Like most introverts my internal world is so much more interesting than the so-called outside world. Everything is a matter of perspective. Great post.
